Piezoelectric nanogenerators have received tremendous attraction because of their ability to power small scale nano-systems and portable electronic devices. In this talk, we will discuss the synthesis of 2D molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) nanosheets, borophene nanosheet-based and their heterostructures via hydrothermal method followed by ultrasonication. We fabricate a high-performance flexible piezoelectric nanogenerator based on as-grown MoS2 nanosheets, borophene and borophene–MoS2 nanosheet heterostructures. Borophene–MoS2 nanosheet heterostructure-based nanogenerator produces a high output voltage of 22 V and current density of 34 µA cm−2 , while MoS2 nanosheet generated output voltage of 10 V and current of the 9 µA cm−2. The heterostructures based nanogenerator shows an excellent energy conversion efficiency of 37%, outperforming their pristine components by almost ten times. The borophene-MoS2 nanosheets based heterostructure also shows high output voltage under UV light and mechanical strain, showing their applications for 2D-based self-powered UV sensor devices. 2D piezoelectric nanogenerators have also used to power personal electronics self-powered nanosensor.
